Hopeful Cities® is equipping cities around the world with the tools they need to create, maintain, and grow hope, city-wide.

Who We Are

iFred, a 501(c) (3) organization established in 2004, works to shine a positive light on mental health and eliminate stigma through prevention, research, and education. iFred is a pioneer in teaching Hope as a learnable skill and activates Hopeful Cities® in areas with a poverty rate of 20% or greater, and the Hopeful Minds®  Programs in school districts where at least 20 percent of the children they serve come from families with incomes below the poverty line. iFred also works in all low and middle-income countries.

What We Do

iFred spent the first ten years advocating to rebrand depression through celebrity engagement, psychoeducation on the brain-body relationship, universal symbolism, focusing on success rates of treatments, and advocacy for prevention.

The single consistent predictor of suicide is Hopelessness, so the focus of iFred has since shifted to understanding Hopelessness, and ensuring all know ‘how’ to Hope through evidence-based programming. We need a proactive, upstream approach to mental health, and it starts with Hope.

I love that they are practical and really make hope a science. I have been teaching explicitly about hope in my classroom for almost 15 years and these are the first resources that I have found to support that work.

Amy B. 4th grade to 9th grade Educator

The children are really enjoying them. Great work in this very important field.

Lorna, Kindergarten to grade 8th Educator, Gus Wetter School, Canada

I was struggling to find a curriculum that wasn’t a million pages long. Something that children on all levels could grasp and understand. You don’t know what a huge help this is to us.

Wanda W., Educator from underserved areas of Memphis Tn

Teachers like the program overall. Our students were engaged in the lessons, which is a huge plus. We would all love to teach it again.

Woodland Intermediate School 5th Grade Team

It is insightful, lighthearted, and inspiring. Chock-full of visually entertaining diagrams, age-appropriate and engaging activities, as well as accurate and intriguing information on the matter of mental health!

Very useful accessible student friendly age-appropriate resources. It has excellent lesson plans.

Pascal, School Counselor

I use it in a Religious school, it is valuable for me in a spiritual framework.

Our students more than ever need hope in their lives so this program allows us to share hope with them!

Great stuff! Easy to navigate and digest, Easily accessible, Evidence-based.

Nichole, Educator

Have only taught up to lesson 4 but the Grade 4 students are enjoying it. They love the upstairs/downstairs brain and have been practicing their breathing.

Margareth, Educator

This is a powerful curriculum. I am passionate about mental health in education. I downloaded this curriculum in 2021 when I worked as a wellness teacher.
